Celebrating it's 32nd year at the same location on Route 28 in South Orleans, half way between Chatham and Orleans, is Pleasant Bay Antiques. The large white Victorian farmhouse and it's connected 18th century barn is filled with early American Period antique furniture and accessories, most of which have been gathered from local homes and collections here on Cape Cod.

18th Century Flame Birch Tall Chest and a late 19th Century Running Horse Weathervane
As you enter the large barn, you are greeted by an 18th century Connecticut cherry secretary-desk, descended from an old Chatham family. The barn has four large rooms filled with similar 18th and early 19th century American furniture. A tiger maple desk, a cherry tall chest and many cupboards, beds, tables and chairs are always in inventory. A number of period American tall case, shelf and wall clocks will impress any clock collector. There are a number of paintings hanging on the walls by local Cape Cod artists from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many of which depict local scenes and water views from that era.

As you continue around the barn, you will come across a large collection of early blown and pressed glass, a lot of which was made at the famous Sandwich Glass Factory. Another case is filled with early Coin and Sterling Silver flatware and small serving pieces. In an adjoining room are shelves filled with Chinese Canton china, historical blue Staffordshire and other antique china.

Next, you pass into the old woodshed that connects the barn to the house and you're overwhelmed by the collection of early working duck decoys and the extensive collection of the work of East Harwich's A. Elmer Crowell. Cherished by decoy collector's for decades, A. Elmer Crowell's work is now considered a true form of Cape Cod folk art. A collection of waterfowl etchings by Frank W. Benson hang on the walls. The woodshed also contains numerous marine antiques, including builder's half models, paintings and accessories.

Continuing into the house, you enter two more rooms tastefully furnished with 18th and 19th century American furniture in livable room settings. Additional clocks, paintings, mirrors and glass fill out the collection.
